Surveys
show that online versions of classics games such as Scrabble, Mahjong, and
chess have gained popularity among seniors as well as other video games. Even the AARP has a selection of online games
for their members that range from chess, to puzzle games, brain games, word
games, slots, and card games including several varieties of solitaire.
A
2014 survey from The Telegraph reported that one in four people over 55 had a
games console in their home and the majority of them did not have children
living in the home. Another study done
in 2015 found that 3-D computer games may help to prevent memory loss and
improve hand-eye coordination and reactions times, which typically slow down as
we age, as well as be challenging to the brain.
They are also a fun activity for seniors to do online with others gamers
or to team up with friends and family for multiplayer games. Some games such as those featured by
Nintendo Wii even make it fun to exercise and include dancing, boxing, bowling
and tennis.
